With copper prices going up, extension cords cost almost as much as the lights.  Considering that fact that I have to connect my lights to to the controller I need a whole lot of extension cords.  I'll have to count them this year to see how many I have and will have to see how much distance they would cover if they were all lined up.  I don't think its as close to a mile as I have thought in the past, but maybe a 1/2 mile.  Click on the extension cords to get some more pictures.

Setup Pictures

Here are a few images of the different areas of setup for the display.  Click any image for more pictures of that specific area of setup.
Picture left is one of my LOR (light-o-rama controllers).  It is the device that allows me to control 16 different lighting channels at a time through computer control.  You can buy completely assembled controllers like the one pictured below, however they are quite pricy.  I bought the hobby kit for a lot less. Hobby kit means you solder all the parts onto the circuit boards and connect the wires. In addition some sort of case needs to be assembled.  As you can see I created a wooded box and set the circuit board inside covering it with plexi-glass.  I used 16 wall plugs for each of the 16 channels, so each plug is controlled individually by the computer.

Without Christmas lights you don't really have a Christmas display.  Pictured left are 3 boxes of mini-lights that were from past displays.  I believe those 3 boxes contain about 85 strings of 100ct mini lights (8500 lights).  I had more, but this year I went through all my lights in July and discovered many had worn out and had to be thrown out.  Luckily later in July I found cases of christmas lights being sold on EBAY for bargin prices.  I ordered 5 cases so hopefully the pushing my total number of lights back to where I like it.  Just incase your wondering.  each case has 24 strings of 100ct lights, making that another 120 strings or 12,000 more lights.  If you want to see more pictures of those boxes and boxes of lights, click the picture of the lights.
